What inspired you to venture into your current industry/profession, and what drives your passion for it?

I was working in a high pressure role as an acquired brain injury specialist. While the work was freakin' rewarding and meaningful, I was doing three people's jobs (legit! Two people left, and both roles became mine, on top of my own!). The long hours (including overnight) were leading me straight for burnout (early 20s me just didn't know the words for it yet). I was most inspired to start my business after a trip to China with my mum, when I had the time and space to realise that I really could create any kind of life I wanted. When I started my business, I had no clue what copywriting was. I had always loved writing (and did all my electives for my psychology degree in writing!), but didn't know how it existed in a modern world – I thought if you wanted to be a writer, you had to write books and that was the only option hahahah. Oh, me. I was 25, without a mortgage, or kids or loans or debt and had one very supportive chef boyfriend (called Paul!). He said go for it. So I quit, started Uber driving and studied an accelerated business course, researched copywriting and started my biz working with friends of friends. Nearly seven years later, my passion for what I do is driven by seeing clients (AKA Readcity Renegades!) fearlessly share their brands and copy in a way that lights their lives up!

Could you share a remarkable achievement or milestone in your career or personal life that you're particularly proud of? How did you overcome challenges to accomplish it?

This year I launched my first mentorship program, Copy Remix. This was an absolute highlight for me, as I got to witness students uncover what it is that makes them original, then apply that to their brands! The challenges I faced were burnout creating it hahaha I kid, I kid. My challenge was formulating my creative process into a step-by-step one, but I reckon we got there! Also winning Founder of The Year with Founders Team in 2020 and Goal Kicker in 2021 were pretty spesh as they were voted for by peers and before then, all I had ever won was a can of coke at cross-country in year nine haha. Speaking at a Surfing Australia event was also pretty cool!

In what ways do you believe your star sign influences your approach to life and business? Are there any specific traits or characteristics associated with your sign/natal chart that you identify with?

OMGSH Kristy, you already know this haha. I am very goal-oriented, and I feel like my star sign confirms that I am always seeking to learn more, do more, be more. I have a constant thirst for using creativity to lift others up at all costs. I definitely identify with the conscientious side (all my report cards may also say this hahaha). You've taught me that with hobbies and fun, I am unlikely to do it without a 'return on investment' AKA there has to be something to show for it... and I feel this.

What strategies or practices do you rely on to maintain a healthy work-life balance? How do you prioritise self-care and personal well-being amidst your professional endeavours?

Good question! Prioritising self-care and personal wellbeing is a work in progress for me. But I have pretty strict rules on myself for when work starts and ends. I also don't work on weekends, which is great for 'forced' 'relaxation' haha. My many lists mean I can let my brain take a breather until I'm at the desk again (mostly!).

Can you offer any advice or words of wisdom to aspiring individuals in your industry who look up to you as a role model? What key lessons or experiences have shaped your journey and contributed to your success?

Oh gosh, I don't know if I am seen as a role model haha. But I think with copywriting – having a solid understanding of sales psychology, conversion copy and SEO have created a solid foundation for writing for the # internetdays. And a curious mind to unlock a client's is key! For business – if your brand feels right for you, you'll deliver it with conviction and that'll be your superpower. (For example, when I chose my visual brand, NO ONE liked it who I ran it by. Today, I don't know what my brand would be without it!).
